Nenagh Castle, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, Ireland.
Description
The castle in my beloved hometown!😀
Construction began in 1200 by the Butlers, the Anglo Norman Earls of Ormond. It was completed in 1220. The castle is open to the public with panoramic views of the town and surrounding countryside and is a major tourist attraction. It is 100ft/30m tall with a 55ft/17m diameter at the base. For scale, note the size of the vehicle on the right.
Next door are the beautiful St. Mary’s Catholic & Church Of Ireland (Anglican) Churches.
Nenagh Castle and Catholic Church are also just across the road from the former jail which houses the well worth visiting Nenagh Heritage Centre & North Tipperary Genealogy Services.
